🛡ATSCheck — resume vs job match checker
ATSCheck / How the Score Works

How the ATSCheck Score Works — Full Method, No Black Box

Most checkers return a number and never explain it. Here is exactly what ATSCheck checks, how each part is scored, and how we keep the AI honest. You should know why your resume got the score it got.

The score has two layers

1
Machine-eye scan — instant, free, no AIA deterministic local rules engine runs the moment you paste your resume. It checks 10 things in 4 groups: contact (email, phone, LinkedIn), structure (Experience / Education / Skills sections, date formats, layout risks like tabs and pipe separators), content (are your bullets quantified?), and tone (18 AI-buzzword phrases such as "team player", "hardworking", "passionate"). This layer costs nothing to run and never waits.
2
AI job-match engine — only when you paste a job descriptionWith a JD, a language model reads both documents and scores 4 categories (hard skills, soft skills, experience, education), maps 8-15 job keywords to your resume, checks each requirement line by line, and writes 5 interview questions. Without a JD, you still get a full general ATS review.

How we keep the AI honest (anti-hallucination)

LLMs invent facts when you let them. We do not let them. Every ATSCheck report runs under these hard rules:

1
Evidence onlyEvery strength, issue, keyword hit and fix must be traceable to the literal text of your resume. No invented traits, achievements, numbers or projects.
2
Named bansPhrases like "passion and dedication" and "detail-oriented" are explicitly banned unless your resume contains those exact words.
3
Buzzword filterIf the AI ever recommends a buzzword as a keyword to add, the report filters it out — ATSCheck never tells you to add the same phrase the machine-eye scan flags as weak.
4
Graceful fallbackIf the AI service is slow or down, you still get a complete local report instead of an error page — the score may be less nuanced, but it is never empty and never invented.

What the machine-eye scan checks

Contact info missing? That is the single most common reason a resume fails automated screening before a human ever reads it. The machine-eye scan catches these issues in under a second, for free, every single time.

Free vs Pro

Free — 3 checks every day, no account: machine-eye scan, general ATS review, full match report with keyword map and requirement-by-requirement fixes, 1 interview question.

Pro — one-time $20, lifetime — unlimited checks, all 5 interview questions, deep fixes with rewrite examples for every gap. No subscription, ever.

Tip: 98-99% of Fortune 500 companies use an ATS to filter applications. Knowing exactly what the machine reads is not optional anymore — it is the price of admission.

Frequently asked questions

Is the score a real ATS simulation?

No — and neither is any other checker that claims to be. Every ATS vendor parses differently. We check the patterns that are common across all of them (structure, contact info, keyword coverage, quantifiable evidence) and tell you exactly what we checked, instead of pretending we cloned Workday.

Why does the score change when I paste a job description?

Without a JD, the report is a general ATS review: "will software parse this resume cleanly?" With a JD, it becomes a match report: "does this resume line up with THIS job?" Those are different questions and get different scores. Both matter.

Does ATSCheck store my resume?

No. Your resume and job description are sent to the AI engine only for analysis and are not stored, sold or shared. Free-tier checks are processed on the fly and discarded.

Why do you show the method instead of keeping it secret?

Because a score you cannot understand is not advice — it is a number with an opinion attached. Showing the method is how we earn trust that a subscription price cannot buy.
